Reading the Instruments
The Instruments section shows the essential read-out: position, speed over ground, heading, depth and wind, updated live from your chosen source. This page explains how to adapt the display to your habits.

Reading headings as magnetic
By default headings read relative to true north. To read them relative to magnetic north instead:
- Open Settings ▸ General.
- Set Heading to Magnetic.
Switching times to UTC
Times read in local time by default. To match the ship's log offshore, set Settings ▸ General ▸ Times to UTC.
Keeping an eye on the values without opening the app
- In the Mac menu bar — enable Show map in menu bar for a compact read-out that stays put.
- As a widget — add a Thoosa widget: on the Mac desktop, in its Control Centre or menu bar; in Control Centre, on the Home Screen or on the Lock Screen of the iPhone and iPad. The latest values stay one glance away.
Worth knowing: how often widgets refresh is directly tied to how much you use the app. If Thoosa is never brought to the foreground, the system refreshes its widgets less and less often.
